EXCLUSIVE TO GHOST NIGHT EVENTS!!!

Warmsworth Hall is a striking and atmospheric country house situated in the village of Warmsworth on the south-western side of Doncaster in Yorkshire. It was built in 1702 by John Battie of the influential Battie-Wrightson family of nearby Cusworth Hall. Although records are unable to fully confirm the hall is thought to have been built on the site of the original principal manor house which existed in 1311. The original thirteenth century belfry of St.Peter's Church stands in the grounds of Warmsworth Hall and is the oldest building in the village. Located more than half a mile away from the church itself an enchanting legend maintains that attempts to build a church on the site of the belfry were abandoned due to the magical invention of fairies who removed the foundation stones during the hours of darkness.

Always a focal point for the village Warmsworth Hall has enjoyed a long and distinguished history and has been occupied by some prominent and influential residents including Lady Charlotte Fitzwilliam, Francis Ottley Edmunds and MP and High Sheriff of York, William Wrightson. Many families maintained an elaborate staff of cooks, maids, butler, gardeners, footmen and coachmen and entertained with lavish parties and formal dinners. The forbidden affair of one former lady of the hall with a stable boy/groom however caused such disgrace and scandal to her family that she tragically killed herself at the hall.

During the 1914-18 war the hall was occupied by English army officers and then later German prisoners of war. After the war the property remained derelict and abandoned until it was rescued and lovingly restored by a local wealthy optician who lived at the property until 1960 when it was purchased by local company British Ropes. Warmsworth Hall is now owned by the InterContinental Hotels Group. It is used as a conference centre and forms part of the hotel complex which houses the nearby Holiday Inn.

The impressive hall captures the elegance of a bygone era and houses an unmistakable and mysterious atmosphere of the past. Many visitors and staff members report ghost sightings and strange phenomena at the building.

  • Oppressive feelings and a general sense of foreboding and sadness on the main staircase which is the scene of the tragic suicide of a former lady occupant who as stated above hanged herself after disgracing her family by having an affair with a groom
  • Apparition of young servant boy who stands in the corner of the dining room or sits at the feet of unsuspecting visitors
  • Flickering and interference with lights and electrics which continue despite checks by electricians
  • Staff regularly complain of feeling watched and experiencing the sense of someone standing behind them and many absolutely refuse to enter the hall after dark
  • Ghost of child seen on the back staircase which leads to a former nursery/playroom
  • Cold spots and unexplained breezes
  • Security staff report that the whole hall maintains a strong sense of occupation by unseen residents
  • Gentleman dressed in Victorian clothing and with huge handlebar moustache has been seen on ground floor

Join the Ghost Night Events team for an exciting and spooky night of ghost hunting at the eerie hall as we tour the property with our medium and conduct vigils, séances and experiments in an attempt to make contact with its restless souls of the past. Please note that participants are welcome to flash photography and recording equipment at this location.

Tea, coffee and light refreshments will be served

"Just like to say really enjoyed my night at Donington-le-Heath manor, was my first proper experience and quite intriguing. Think the tables that moved and span round was very curious ! Was nice social event too, meet different people. I shall be looking to go to Nottingham next in October, now I've witnessed things first hand that cannot easily be explained" - Paul B - September 2009

"Still thinking about it 3 days on ,what a great night we had , don't think I've ever seen as much activity in one place ,it just went on and on, they must have been really glad to see us, i think we will be talking about the winter gardens for a long time..." Kathryn.H Morecambe Winter Gardens - September 2009
